Sources say military leaders warned President Trump that striking Iran could provoke retaliation in the Strait of Hormuz; General Dan Caine reportedly cautioned the president repeatedly. The operation began in late February and, per The Wall Street Journal, has cost 13 American service members their lives. Leavitt blamed Iran’s actions for disrupting shipping and energy markets.
