The alleged break-in

According to the suit, while Barulich was traveling in October 2025 her unit was burglarized and thieves made off with over $2.1 million in luxury handbags, watches, jewelry and other personal items. The complaint claims intruders accessed secured residential zones — including a secured elevator one burglar rode for 14 minutes — and the parking structure, and were inside her apartment for several hours after bypassing the locking system. Barulich says access logs showed only building security entered the unit while she was away, staff suggested it might be an "inside job," and the building refused to release surveillance footage while demanding she sign a non-disparagement agreement to move out. She also alleges another family who lived in the unit later was burglarized and security did not detect the break-in. The complaint notes three burglaries or attempts at the property in three years.

Aftermath and the response

Barulich says the incident caused severe anxiety, paranoia, chronic nightmares and post-traumatic stress, and she is seeking a jury trial along with punitive, exemplary and compensatory damages. A spokesperson for 8500 Burton Way called the lawsuit "frivolous," adding that LAPD investigated and found no unauthorized entry or access and that the allegations are "baseless and without merit."
