University of Alabama sophomore Kyla Lemons pulled back the curtain on her Zeta Tau Alpha bedroom refresh — a coordinated, months-long project with her roommate that went viral online. Read on to discover the full story!
Kyla, 19, from Birmingham and studying marketing with a sales minor, and roommate Jaelyn Hanna chose a blue-and-green palette and spent the summer crafting the space. They estimate about 100 hours went into the makeover, from hand-painted accents to planning; assembling everything on move-in day took roughly six hours. Kyla credits Jaelyn’s sister, Jillian Hanna, for bringing the vision to life.
They reused neon signs, many frames and some vanity pieces, but spent about $5,845 total on new items. Notable costs: $700 for two large paintings, $420 for 12 gold frames, $300 for a shared dresser, $300 for a blue mini fridge and $350 for climate-controlled storage. Rugs, lamps, curtains and dozens of pillows added up, with several pillow purchases totaling hundreds more.
